If one quote is "from $X" and another is all-in for Friday 6pm, you are not comparing the same product. Use this checklist.
Most people planning a Singapore charter collect three or four quotes, line them up, and pick the lowest number. That number is almost never the number they pay. The quotes differ on tax treatment, day type, guest count, fuel, and how overtime is billed. Fix those variables first and the ranking usually changes.
Start with GST, because 9% decides the ranking
Singapore GST is 9%. A quote shown excluding GST looks about 9% cheaper than the identical quote shown including it. That gap alone is bigger than most of the discounts you will negotiate.
A S$1,400 charter quoted excluding GST is S$1,526 when the invoice arrives. Put that next to a S$1,480 all-in quote and the "cheaper" option is now the expensive one. Nothing about the boat changed.
Every price in this article is GST-inclusive. That is how Yachtly publishes from-prices, and it is the only way a comparison holds up. When you receive a quote, the first question is not "how much" — it is "is this with or without GST?" Get it in writing.
The eight-line quote checklist
Ask for these eight lines from every operator. If a quote is missing one, it is incomplete, not cheap.
- GST. Inclusive or exclusive? At 9%, this is the single biggest swing between two otherwise identical quotes.
- Duration. Four hours is the Singapore standard. Some quotes are three hours. Compare per-charter and per-hour.
- Day type. Weekday, weekend, public holiday, or eve of a public holiday. These are four different prices, not two.
- Guest count and extra-pax charges. Quotes are built on a base guest count. Ask what that base is and what each guest above it costs.
- Fuel. Included for the standard route, or billed on consumption? A "fuel surcharge, TBC" line is an open cheque.
- Crew. Skipper and deckhand included, or added later? Is a service charge or gratuity applied to the subtotal?
- Deposit. How much to hold the date, when is the balance due, and is the deposit refundable if you cancel.
- Overtime. The per-hour or per-half-hour rate if you run late, and whether it is charged in part-hour blocks.
Overtime is the one people skip. Guests board late, the sunset run stretches, and you are back at the pontoon twenty minutes past the hour. On some contracts that is a full extra hour at a premium rate. Know the number before you board, not after.
Why "from" prices are not comparable
A "from" price is the lowest cell in a pricing grid: shortest duration, lowest guest count, cheapest day of the week, no add-ons. It is a real price for one specific booking, and probably not yours.
Two operators can advertise the same "from S$900" and land in completely different places once you specify Saturday, 6pm, 20 guests, four hours. The fix is boring and effective: give every operator the same brief — exact date, exact start time, exact guest count, exact duration — and insist on a total, GST included.
Weekend uplift is per-yacht, not a flat 20%
The industry shorthand is "add 20% for the weekend." It is wrong often enough to matter. Across the Yachtly fleet the uplift runs from about 7% to about 35%, with a median near 21%. Here are five real vessels on a standard four-hour private charter, GST-inclusive:

Read the last two rows together. On a weekday, Eagle Wings 2 is less than half the price of St. Vincent. On a Saturday, the gap narrows sharply, because one yacht adds 30% and the other adds 7%. If you shortlisted on weekday from-prices, you shortlisted the wrong boats.
Public holidays and the eve of a public holiday price above the weekend rate. National Day, Chinese New Year eve and New Year's Eve are their own tier. Check the actual date, not the day of the week.
Worked example: one Saturday charter, two quotes
Same brief for both: Saturday, 6pm–10pm, four hours, 20 guests, departing Marina at Keppel Bay, cruise to Lazarus Island.
Quote A is a typical emailed PDF built off a weekday headline rate. Quote B is the published Yachtly rate for MyEscapade, a Cumberland 47 licensed for 32 guests.

Quote A opened 20% below Quote B and finished 40% above it. Nothing in Quote A was dishonest. Every line was disclosed somewhere. It was just disclosed after the number that anchored the decision.
The lesson is not "always pick the platform." It is that a headline built on a weekday, GST-exclusive, base-guest-count basis cannot be compared to an all-in Saturday price. Rebuild both on the same basis and then choose.
What "included" should actually cover
